ICON*S Conference 2016 in Berlin: Livestream on Verfassungsblog

Starting tomorrow, Berlin will abound with constitutionalists from all over the world for three days. The ICON*S conference, now in its third year and already established as one of the focus points of academic constitutionalist debate, will be hosted by Humboldt University this year. It is our honor to broadcast several of the highlights of this conference, including a panel in which Verfassungsblog itself will participate.

The live stream will start Friday at 1:00 p.m. with opening remarks by Ran Hirschl and Mattias Kumm, the keynote speech by the former ECtHR judge Françoise Tulkens (1:15 – 2:00 p.m.) and the first plenary session “Migration and Movement”, including presentations by Alex Aleinikoff and Philippe Sand and a commentary by Ayelet Shachar (3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.).

On Saturday, we will stream the second plenary session “Inequalities” with talks by Susanne Baer and Catherine McKinnon and a commentary by Pratap Bahnu Mehta (2:45 – 4:15 p.m.)

On Sunday, we will start with a discussion panel on “Public Law Scholarship beyond Borders: Publishing as and for Others”, including ICON chief editor Joseph H. H. Weiler, Global Constitutionalism editor Mattias Kumm (stepping in for Antje Wiener who couldn’t come unfortunately), German Law Journal editor Russell A. Miller, Italian Constitutional Court Justice and editor of the Italian Public Law Journal Marta Cartabia, your’s truly Maximilian Steinbeis from Verfassungsblog and Fernando Muñoz León from Derecho y Crítica Social. The discussion will be moderated by Matthias Goldmann (9:00 – 10:45 a.m.).

Afterwards, we will also stream the third and last plenary session “Judicial Interview and Dialogue” with CJEU president Koen Lenaerts and ECtHR president Guido Raimondi being interviewed by Joseph H.H. Weiler and Gráinne de Búrca (11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.).
